India catches over 1 lakh tonne of squids every year, primarily from bottom trawling from both coats of India during the same period - most of which is exported to the EU
Due to inadequate management of squid fishing - there are issues of quality for the Indian squid , it lacks sustainability in the EU market which now demand traceability and prefer catches from one day fishing boats.
Squids grow quickly - making it necessary that both trawl and day catch squid fisheries implement and modify their fishing practices for the near future to be able to cater to the changing markets
